CAREER

Christopher Q. King, Partner at Redgrave LLP, is recognized as a leader in information law and has devoted his practice to discovery, eDiscovery, and information governance. He serves as the lead attorney for several of the Firm’s key clients, advising on their eDiscovery and information governance needs. Chris oversees the development of discovery strategy in complex litigation and investigation matters and has briefed and argued eDiscovery motions in dozens of federal and state court cases.

Chris deeply understands the connection between information governance and eDiscovery and works with clients to develop holistic solutions that consider both practices. By building a solid foundation of information governance policies and procedures, organizations improve efficiencies, reduce risk, and put themselves in a better position to strategically handle eDiscovery issues. Robust information governance practices can provide a roadmap to how and where data is stored, streamlining time and resources during early case assessment. Chris also shows clients how eDiscovery approaches and outcomes can influence and reinforce information governance, including standardizing legal hold policies, investing in approaches and tools for preservation and collection, and being diligent about data minimization and defensible disposition.

In his information governance matters, Chris plays a pivotal role in counseling clients on a broad range of information governance issues, including leading large-scale assessments of existing information governance and eDiscovery processes and programs. He advises clients on defensible disposition projects, including system and hardware decommissioning and physical record remediation, and counsels on the defensibility of large-scale data migrations and conversions. Chris helps clients develop data retention, management, and disposition protocols, customized litigation hold processes, bring your own device (BYOD) policies, defensible employee and technology onboarding and offboarding processes, network use policies, and create and update record management policies and schedules.

In his eDiscovery matters, Chris leverages his extensive background litigating class actions, multidistrict litigation, and other types of complex litigation to identify, develop, and execute practical eDiscovery approaches that support the merits of a case. He has managed all stages of the discovery process, from document production to briefing and arguing matters in court, and has represented clients in the insurance, banking, securities, manufacturing, retail, technology, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy, and healthcare sectors. Chris regularly develops preservation plans, negotiates electronically stored information (“ESI”) protocols, and prepares and defends fact and corporate representative witnesses with respect to discovery-related issues. He has also acted as a special master and discovery neutral in contentious litigation matters and assisted with expert witness testimony. Whether in court, writing briefs, or negotiating on behalf of a client, Chris prides himself on being a hands-on attorney, recognizing the strong link between eDiscovery and litigation strategy.

Chambers USA and Chambers Global recognize Chris as a leading eDiscovery and information governance lawyer. He is also recognized by Who’s Who Legal for Litigation: eDiscovery Lawyers. He is a sought-after speaker, panelist, and presenter, participating at The Sedona Conference®, EDI Leadership Summit, and the Georgetown Advanced E-Discovery Institute as an authority on eDiscovery and information governance.

Before joining Redgrave LLP, Chris was a Partner at Dentons, where he founded and led the eDiscovery and Information Governance practice for the U.S. region. Chris was also clerk to Robert Murphy, Chief Judge, Court of Appeals of Maryland. Chris is admitted to practice in Illinois, before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third and Seventh Circuits, and in the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois, and the Eastern District of Michigan.
