Miles Ruthberg retired from the partnership in December 2019. He was the former Global Chair of the firm's Litigation & Trial Department. Mr. Ruthberg also has been a member of Latham’s Executive Committee, Local Chair of the New York Litigation & Trial Department, and Chair of the firm’s Securities Litigation & Professional Liability Practice. He has successfully represented many major companies in their most important litigation, including securities law, class actions, and complex commercial disputes with a particular emphasis on accounting and financial issues.

Mr. Ruthberg has achieved highly favorable results in trial, on motion, in settlement, and on appeal. He has won complete defense victories at trial on claims totaling more than US$4 billion; obtained dismissal of numerous multibillion-dollar securities class actions; and successfully renegotiated the then largest class action settlement in mass tort history. He has handled more than 100 cases involving accounting and financial issues for banks, companies, and accounting firms.

Mr. Ruthberg served as law clerk for Justice Thurgood Marshall of the US Supreme Court and for Judge Carl McGowan of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. He is an elected member of The American Law Institute, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a member of the New York, California, District of Columbia, and American Bar Associations. Mr. Ruthberg has served on the Boards of Directors of the Legal Aid Society of New York and Lawyers Alliance for New York and is an inaugural recipient of the Robert M. Dell Prize for Extraordinary Pro Bono Service.
