Commercial Litigation:
Bassford lawyers are experienced, efficient and aggressive. Equally comfortable in state and federal courts, they also understand their clients’ business needs.
■Served as co-lead counsel on behalf of more than 70,000 individual plaintiffs seeking damages from a multinational biotechnology conglomerate’s alleged premature commercialization of genetically modified corn products
■Represented a global technology company in misappropriation of trade secret dispute; appellate rulings affirming and reinstating arbitration award resulting in total award exceeding $800 million
■Represented the chief executive officer and founding shareholder in a shareholder dispute involving an international manufacturing company
■Represented a global medical-device company in breach of non-competition covenant and misappropriation of confidential information matter resulting in injunctive relief protecting $100 million research and development project

Construction:

Consumer Law Defense:
Bassford defends financial institutions, creditors, collection agencies, attorneys, hospitals, and other businesses facing consumer-protection lawsuits. During the last 25 years, Bassford has handled thousands of these cases brought under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Telephone Consumer Practices Act, and other consumer-protection statutes, as well as investigations and claims brought by government regulators against clients in the credit and collection industry.

Employment & Labor:
Bassford advises and represents clients in the entire spectrum of employment law matters, including discrimination and harassment complaints, non-competition disputes, wage and hour matters, ERISA litigation, prevailing wage compliance matters and labor disputes.

Insurance Coverage:
Bassford litigates coverage issues in both state and federal courts and has helped shape insurance coverage law in Minnesota and surrounding states.
■Represented insurer affirming district court’s judgment that no sexual misconduct coverage was available to a sexual abuser. Clifford v. Church Mut. Ins. Co., 655 F. App’x 293 (6th Cir. 2016)
■Represented two insurers and served as liaison counsel in multi-party asbestos coverage litigation. Paul W. Abbott Co., Inc. v. Continental Cas. Co., et al., No. 62-cv-14-7464 (Ramsey Cty. Minn.)

Intellectual Property Litigation:
Bassford represents clients in intellectual property matters involving trademark infringement, trade dress infringement, copyright infringement, advertising injuries and trade secret disputes, often involving hundreds of millions of dollars.

Organizational Liability for Sexual Misconduct/Abuse:
Bassford is one of only a handful of Minnesota firms with significant experience handling sexual misconduct cases. The firm represents regional and national not for profits and other entities facing charges of liability for the sexual misconduct of one of their employees or volunteers.

Products Liability:
Bassford represents clients on matters involving a wide range of industries and products from medical devices, pharmaceuticals, food safety, industrial equipment, propane and natural gas systems, agribusiness products and the full spectrum of related litigation, from individual claims to mass torts.

Professional Liability:
