PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK For its corporate clients the firm provides a full range of commercial services, including mergers and acquisitions, company restructuring and refinancing, compliance issues, shareholder and investor agreements, partnership affairs (including LLPs) and commercial agreements. It has specialist expertise in relation to the IP aspects of digital and technology issues and provides advice on the protection, exploitation and enforcement of trademarks, copyrights, patents and design rights. On the private client side the firm advises on wealth protection, tax planning and on business succession issues, agricultural property and overseas assets. Its family solicitors advise on family and matrimonial law, including separation, divorce and civil partnerships, as well as more complex cases with international aspects, corporate or substantial assets, or difficult issues concerning children. At the outset of relationships the firm proactively advises individuals on cohabitation or pre-nuptial agreements. It has also built a reputation for providing specialist advice in relation to expatriate divorces. The firm’s property lawyers advise corporates, developers, independent schools and charities and private clients on the acquisition, administration and disposal of commercial, investment and higher value residential properties. A disputes resolution group is available to all types of clients to deal with contentious matters, with an emphasis on active cost/benefit analysis and commitment to the pursuit of alternative disputes resolution strategies, such as mediation. The firm’s employment lawyers act for corporate as well as private clients and have specialist expertise in the employment law needs of schools and charities, organisations heavily burdened by additional and continuously changing compliance requirements. Members of the team are frequent presenters at conferences for schools and in the charities/not-for-profit sector. The firm’s personal injury and clinical negligence team comprises acknowledged specialists in many types of personal injury litigation, especially cases involving serious brain or spinal injuries and other complex or high-value claims.
