PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK

Corporate:
Provides highly-focused commercial advice to businesses and individuals on corporate structures, general corporate affairs, M&A and fundraising, and has developed specialisms in advising on investment and protection structures for family and AIM companies.

Commercial/IP:
Covers all aspects of non-contentious IP law, including licensing, brand acquisitions and disposals, commercial contracts and data protection.

IP:
The contentious IP team integrates with commercial/IP, dealing with complex litigation, brand copyright, data protection, competition law and counterfeiting cases.

Commercial Property:
One of the largest and most experienced teams in Manchester, the firm advises on investment, development, construction, planning, estate management, acquisition structures, and distressed market and debt restructuring, with specialist expertise in funding issues and default situations, and complex banking documentation and negotiations.

Litigation:
Has particular expertise in complex professional negligence claims, and high-value disputes. The team also advises on commercial landlord and tenant, and shareholder disputes.

Employment:
Advises senior executives and businesses on all employment issues, including contracts, executive dismissals, confidential information and restrictive covenants, High Court Injunctions, redundancy, tribunal litigation involving whistleblowing and discrimination, unfair dismissal, and employment aspects in company transactions.

Banking:
Provides commercial advice and assistance for both investment and development finance, the management of assets over which clients have security, the recovery of monies lent, security reviews, security re-structures (including bespoke facilities and inter-creditor arrangements), and LPA receiver appointments.

Licensing:
Advises on all aspects of liquor and entertainment licensing, and is renowned for dealing with contested applications, areas of Cumulative Impact and advising developers on licences in principle.

Private Client:
The firm’s private offering includes tax and trusts, residential, and family law. The team specialises in complex wills, probate, inheritance tax planning, domicile and residence, Office of the Public Guardian/Court of Protection/Powers of Attorney and serious HMRC investigations. The team advises on the full spectrum of family law, but is particularly known for complex matrimonial matters such as trust arrangements, business and property assets, and public pensions.
