THE FIRM The firm specialises in all areas of criminal defence, from police station and pre-charge advice to representation at court. It also advises in relation to extradition, restraint orders, confiscation proceedings, cash seizure and expunging criminal records. The firm undertakes a significant amount of privately funded work where legal aid is either not available or not applied for. All members of the firm are highly sensitive to the needs of clients and recognise that being the subject of a criminal investigation or proceedings is a stressful experience.

PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK
All types of criminal cases are undertaken, the firm having particular expertise in serious crime, fraud, and money laundering, protest and public order, motoring offences and extradition. Fraud and money laundering prosecutions are a major area of specialism. Expert advice is offered in complex allegations that can take months or years to be tried and involve huge volumes of material. The firm acts in such matters being prosecuted by the CPS, the SFO and the FCA.

The firm secured the only acquittal in a multiple defendant trial involving a conspiracy to defraud HMRC in relation to a fraudulent film tax avoidance scheme. The firm also secured the only acquittal in the multiple defendant Reading HBOS prosecution. The firm presently acts in a £19m money laundering case concerning the proceeds of a fake medicines fraud.

The firm’s Crown Court department is regularly instructed by those facing the most serious allegations including murder, manslaughter, terrorism, serious assault, sexual offences, drug related offences, currency counterfeiting and regulatory prosecutions. Recent cases have included conspiracies to import and traffic drugs and cigarettes, gang-related murders and other allegations of murder and terrorism. The firm has an enviable success rate in murder trials, having conducted a considerable number in the recent past.

Road traffic expertise ranges from minor offences to prosecutions involving fatal collisions, and everything in between. David Sonn represented Lord Howard in his successful High Court appeal against a conviction for failing to identify the driver of his vehicle.

The firm has extensive expertise in extradition and acts daily in matters before Westminster Magistrates’ Court and in subsequent appeals.

The firm is one of only a few that offers advice in relation to criminal records deletion.

The firm is increasingly privately instructed by individuals who wish to ensure that they have the highest calibre representation from pre-charge advice through to trial.
