THE FIRM The firm Powell Spencer & Partners is one of the most reputable and successful law firms in London, particularly noted for its outstanding criminal defence, family and clinical negligence practices. Founded in 1977, Powell Spencer & Partners was originally a community-oriented practice that aimed to provide first-class legal services to the local community. It quickly developed an outstanding reputation for criminal defence, personal injury litigation, clinical negligence and family law work. PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK 

Criminal Litigation:

Powell Spencer & Partners deals with major crimes, murders, terrorism, conspiracies to import drugs, drugs supply, armed robbery, rape, trading fraud and other cases. Led by Greg Powell, Sinead Zaman and Mark Troman, the firm is dedicated to providing clear and accurate advice to help clients make the right decisions. Tina Donoghue is the firm’s specialist in confiscation proceedings.

Trade Union:
A specialist department that deals with issues involving trade unions and its members re allegations concerning criminal law. It offers legal advice and representation to their members in London and the South East.

Family:
This department deals with matters ranging from contact and residence of children, through to divorce and high net-worth litigation. It provides a proactive approach in a sensitive and effective manner. Specialist areas include divorce; financial and property matters; domestic violence; children – residency and contact; adoption; abduction; care proceedings and secure accommodation proceedings; unmarried partner disputes; separation arrangements; and Asian marriages and divorces.

Clinical Negligence:
The team helps obtain financial compensation for victims who have suffered as a result of the negligent actions of medical staff. Examples include, but are not limited to, pre-birth and birth injury or loss of life, anaesthetic awareness, GP negligence, misdiagnosis and victims of cosmetic surgical errors.

Personal Injury:
The team handles accidents resulting in death, head and brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and limb loss, severe burns, strokes, falls and paralysis. The team also deal with road traffic and work place accidents.

Immigration:
Headed by Sonia Dass, who is fluent in Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. This private client department is able to assist clients on visitors’ visas, family visas, entry clearance and long residence applications, points-based system applications, extensions for all types of visas, ILR (indefinite leave to remain) residence permit/certificate for EEA Nationals and their families, bail applications for those who have been detained, human rights, naturalisation, registration and citizenship applications; applying for a British passport; and preparing and representing appeals in the First Tier Tribunal.

Legal Costs:
In recent years the firm has established a very successful legal costs department lead by the firm’s qualified costs lawyer and partner, Saloud Zaman. The firm regularly receives instructions from a number of other firms ranging from Top 100 firms to Sole Practitioners. It specialises in legal aid costs and provide a wealth of experiencing with preparing CCMS claims, older paper claim forms, drafting bill of costs, complex cost case plans, points of dispute and replies and advising on general billing procedures.
