PRINCIPAL AREAS OF WORK

Land & Rural Business:

Leading expertise is provided in agricultural law, the purchase, sale and leasing of all types of rural properties (sporting estates, farms, forestry and country houses) plus accompanying issues such as the mitigation of tax and future succession planning. The team advises on traditional activities such as forestry, crofting, fishing, farm fishing, agribusiness and land development and work together with specialist colleagues on an increasing number of renewable energy and natural resource projects.

Private Client:
Services include wills, powers of attorney, trusts and executries, advice to elderly clients, succession and tax planning. The team provides specialist family law services and advice on separation and divorces and issues relating to children.

Energy, Infrastructure & Natural Resources:
The team has specialist skills dealing with all aspects of electricity generation, including coal and renewables, wind, hydro and biomass developments and all areas of natural resources including forestry and water resources. This particular team can represent developers, landowners, utility providers, generators and intensive energy users.

Charities: Providing advice on all elements of charity law including constitution and governance, structure, trading subsidiaries, mergers and rearrangements.

Commercial Property:
Delivers a range of specialist services to landlords and tenants as well as advising developers, licensed properties, care homes, local traders and investors and other UK and overseas investors wishing to purchase property and strategic land in Scotland.

Housebuilder:
The housebuilder team offers a dedicated service to both housebuilders and land owners entering into development and sale agreements: giving experienced advice on the negotiation and delivery of strategic land and option agreements, land for immediate development, infrastructure procurement, professional team appointments, the achievement of satisfactory statutory consent, overage terms and the packaging of sites for multi-outlet disposals and land swaps. Additionally, the plot sales team employs a state of the art case management system to ensure a rapid and smooth plot sales service to housebuilder clients.

Corporate:
The team advises on all areas of company and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, international trade and competition law, joint ventures, partnerships, international technology, intellectual property and government consultations.

Dispute Resolution:
Dispute resolution handles all types of commercial, property and employment disputes and has extensive experience helping clients come to a satisfactory conclusion; from alternative dispute resolution through to litigation in various courts.

Planning & Environment:
The team undertake all areas of planning law including planning applications, appeals and breaches, development, appraisal and investment advice, mediation, judicial reviews and statutory appeals.

Residential Property:
The residential team provides expert conveyancing and legal services and is a leading estate agency in the Edinburgh prime property market.
