Members of One Brick Court:
■ Act for clients ranging from leading newspapers, broadcasters, publishers and global internet and social media companies to individuals, public and governmental bodies, blue-chip and small businesses, and NGOs. In addition, several members are on the prestigious Attorney General’s Panel of Counsel.
■ Appear in all civil courts in the jurisdiction up to the Supreme Court, in the Crown Court, Magistrates’ Courts and Family Court on media reporting restriction matters, and in the Information Tribunal on data protection and Freedom of Information Act matters. Some members advise and exercise rights of audience in other jurisdictions, including Northern Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
■ Provide advice across the full ambit of informational, reputational and content-related law and regulation. Related human rights issues are handled, together with judicial review and intellectual property law.

In addition to advice and representation in litigation (including out of hours urgent injunction applications), One Brick Court offers a fast and competitive pre-publication advice service for which members are able to receive instructions directly from publishers and internet intermediaries. One Brick Court also provides reputation management advice and legal training and seminars to law firms and clients.

Work Undertaken

Defamation & Reputation Management:
Libel, slander, malicious falsehood, reputation management.

Privacy Law: All matters arising from the tensions between the right to free speech and the right of privacy, including obtaining and resisting applications for injunctions.

Data Protection & Information Law: Advice and representation on all matters arising out of the Data Protection Act and the Freedom of Information Act.

Commercial Confidentiality & Falsehoods: Breach of confidence, malicious falsehoods, deceit and others torts concerning commercial information and allegations, including confidentiality in employment contracts.

Online Liability: All aspects of liability for online content, including internet intermediary liability.

Reporting the Courts & Contempt: Urgent advice and representation in the civil, criminal and family courts and tribunal system on reporting restrictions and anonymity orders, as well as issues relating to contempt of court and protection of journalistic sources.

Harassment: Advice and representation in all aspects of this tort which can apply to publications, employment or family disputes, protests and campaigns.

Pre-Publication Advice: Advice available on a competitive basis on all aspects of content liability for the entire spectrum of publishers and broadcasters.

Media Regulation & Human Rights: all aspects of media regulation, judicial review and human rights law concerned with rights of privacy, personal data, reputation and freedom of expression.

Other: Negligent misstatement; passing off; malicious prosecution; obscenity; and media related intellectual property law.
