James Newton-Price QC is an experienced and busy barrister in criminal and regulatory law. He took Silk in 2018 and has been instructed in a number of murder cases. Recently, he successfully defended a man charged with murder and manslaughter in a trial involving joint enterprise issues. He is also instructed in cases involving the death of a child. He prosecutes and defends in multi-defendant trials (drugs conspiracies, armed robberies, revenue fraud and money laundering) with large volumes of complex telephone and forensic evidence. He is regularly instructed in difficult cases of rape and child sexual abuse, which require sensitive handling of vulnerable witnesses. Many cases concern historic allegations that date back decades. He defends in Court Martial hearings and in serious road traffic cases, including cases of causing death by dangerous driving. He has particular expertise in Regulatory Law, in which his practice encompasses health and safety matters, transport inquiries and medical disciplinary hearings. He sits as a Recorder on the Western Circuit and as a Legally Qualified Chair in professional misconduct hearings for doctors at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) and as a Legal Assessor for the Health Care & Professions Tribunal Service (HCPTS).
