Practice Areas

Extradition, International Criminal and Humanitarian Law, General Crime. Since taking Silk has specialised in defending extradition requests, both at first instance and on appeal, encompassing the full range of Part 1 and 2 work with a particular emphasis on political corruption, prison conditions and re-trial rights in former East European communist states e.g. Dogaev (relationship between Russia and the Czech Republic). Has led in many of the leading Article 3 authorities of recent years, often involving issues relating to assurances provided by the requesting state:- Aleksynas (Lithuania), Wolkowicz (Poland), Florea and Blaj (Romania), Lustyuk (Ukraine), Kapoor (India), Nikolov and Kirchanov(Bulgaria).

List Counsel:- International Criminal Court, International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, Special Tribunal for Lebanon. Extradition:- DELF. Criminal Bar Association. Fraud Lawyers Association.

Career

Spent 2005-2010 at ICTY in The Hague defending in two lengthy international war crime trials one for a senior Bosnian Serb politician, the other a multi-hander for a General charged in relation to the Srebrenica massacre. Both cases involved allegations including genocide, extermination, mass murder and large scale ethnic cleansing.
