Walker Johnson represents insurance companies, financial institutions and other corporations in federal tax controversies and litigation, transfer pricing, and tax planning matters. He represents clients in technical advice requests, audit examinations, and IRS Appeals proceedings. Walker has litigated numerous cases in district court, the Tax Court, and the Court of Federal Claims, as well as in various Circuit Courts of Appeals and the US Supreme Court. Walker has advised a wide variety of clients on tax planning matters including company, financial product and investment tax issues, corporate transaction matters, captive insurance, and penalty and interest questions. His experience includes providing opinion letters and obtaining private letter rulings from the IRS National Office.
Prior to joining Steptoe, Walker was a trial attorney at the Department of Justice’s Tax Division, where he litigated to published opinion and settled hundreds of tax refund suits brought against the government by taxpayer plaintiffs.
