Simon Mayo specializes in serious and complex crime. He has a wealth of experience in the full spectrum of serious fraud work including frauds centred on the financial markets and revenue frauds. He is regularly instructed for the defence in the largest and most complex fraud cases. He was instructed for the defence in the largest prosecution ever brought by HMRC. His experience and expertise in the field of serious fraud is also called upon by specialist prosecution agencies. The SFO has appointed him to both of their specialist panels and he currently acts for them in an investigation into international corruption. He also acts for the FCA in relation to the investigation and prosecution of malpractice and fraud in the financial services sector. He is currently instructed by the FCA in two separate major investigations. He has expertise in data protection law and has advised private clients and the ICO in this field. He also advises individuals and corporate bodies on a wide range of issues affecting director and corporate liability. In the field of general crime, he has extensive experience in dealing with homicide cases and has for many years been instructed on behalf of the defence and the prosecution in cases of murder and manslaughter. Simon has also appeared for defendants before a number of professional and sporting disciplinary bodies.
