Counsel. Practice focuses on tax controversy, representing clients in disputes primarily with the federal tax authorities and before the federal courts.
The conduct and management of tax litigation for the Department of Justice from 1980 to 1999 finishing his career there as Senior General Counsel before joining EY Law LLP (formerly Couzin Taylor LLP) in 1999. Has conducted trials before the Tax Court of Canada, Federal Court and Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and appeals before the Federal Court of Appeal, Court of Appeal for Ontario and Supreme Court of Canada. Recent cases: The Queen v Sommerer, 2012 FCA 207, 2011 TCC 212; Gariepy v. The Queen, 2014 TCC 254; Kruger Inc. v. The Queen, 2016 FCA 186.
