Roderick I'Anson Banks
Has focused exclusively on partnership and LLP law since the 1980s and is consistently applauded by sources for his exhaustive and unsurpassed knowledge of the area. Although respected as a courtroom opponent of great tactical skill, he is nevertheless distinguished by his ability to find alternatives to litigation. Roderick I’Anson Banks has more than 30 years’ experience practising exclusively in the specialist fields of partnership and LLP law. He deals primarily with disputes affecting professional firms and family partnerships, but also has a long track record as a draftsman of all forms of partnership-related documentation. He has extensive experience in cases involving expulsions, compulsory retirements, downsizing operations, “lock-ins”, “extractions”, garden leave, restrictive covenants, dissolutions and “Syers v. Syers” orders. He also has particular expertise in the field of limited partnerships and corporate structures designed to avoid partnership status.

He advises numerous international and non-UK based firms, especially those based in Jersey, having originally been involved in the drafting of the Limited Liability Partnerships (Jersey) Law 1997 and advised on the 2017 revisions to that Law.

Known for his hands-on approach to partnership disputes, he can also provide complex and bespoke drafts at short notice. Regularly acts for clients in arbitrations and mediations .

Career

Called to the Bar 1974. Set up Partnership Counsel in 1991, as the only chambers specialising exclusively in partnership/LLP law. CEDR Accredited Mediator, 1993. Consultant to the Law Commission on its reviews of partnership law and limited partnership law (1999 - 2003).
