Practice Areas

Peter specialises in a wide variety of civil litigation, especially product liability, multi-party actions, clinical negligence, public law, professional negligence, contentious probate, inquests/fatal cases, defamation, privacy and misuse of confidential information, human rights, and contentious costs. Notable cases include:

Lead solicitor (currently) for over 80 Claimants in a pharmaceutical group action against GlaxoSmithKline re narcolepsy caused by the 2009/10 pandemic swine flu vaccine.

Acted pro bono for the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) in proceedings for judicial review against the Lord Chancellor regarding her failure to reduce the discount rate under s.2 of the Damages Act 1996, including as interested party to proceedings issued by the ABI against the Lord Chancellor. This prompted the review of the discount rate and subsequent decision by the Lord Chancellor to substantially lower the discount rate from 2.5% to below zero.

John v DWP – successful defence of an appeal by the Secretary of State for DWP to the Court of Appeal about compensation for a vaccine injury

S (a minor) v NHS England – successful judicial review of decision by NHS to refuse funding for an expensive medication for a child with narcolepsy

SB (a minor) v NHS England – successful judicial review of decision by NHS to refuse funding for an expensive medication for a child with phenylketonuria and severe autism

Phone hacking and misuse of confidential information claim against Mirror Group Newspapers for a well-known pop music artist

Acting for the Claimant in a civil claim for rape against the actor/writer Steven Berkoff.

Primodos claims (a multi-party action re causality of birth defects by a hormone pregnancy test).

Gulf war syndrome litigation (multi-party action for veterans of Gulf war).

Organophosphate litigation (multi-party action for farmers and others exposed to sheep dip and other pesticide applications of organophosphates).
