Pat specialises in competition law and has been involved in landmark cases at EU and national level. She is expert across the range of competition law, particularly recognised for her work on the complex legal, policy and strategy issues arising where competition law and intellectual property law intersect. Consequently, clients in high-technology sectors including life sciences and TMT seek her advice regularly. Pat represents clients before the competition authorities (including during and after dawn raids) all the way through to final decision and appeal if necessary. She acts on the competition aspects of private litigation, including stand-alone and follow on damages claims in the High Court and CAT, and competition defences arising in commercial or intellectual property actions. Pat advises frequently on the competition aspects of commercial agreements including licences, distribution, supply and agency contracts, standard setting arrangements and joint ventures and has substantial experience in advising how competition law affects dominant companies. Pat enjoys helping companies improve their competition compliance through focussed training. She writes and speaks regularly on competition law and teaches the competition law module on the Oxford University Postgraduate Diploma in intellectual property law and practice.
