Matthew practises in all aspects of Personal Injury Law (Accidents at work, Road Traffic, Industrial Disease, Public and Occupiers Liability as well and Landlord and Tenant Act and Defective Premises Act cases). Matthew is instructed in equal measure by both Claimants and Defendants in both the Fast and Multi-track. Instructions are also regularly received to present Costs Case Management Conferences. Advice and representation is also given in Interlocutory matters.
Matthew is regularly instructed in Public and Employer Liability Claims for Local Authorities (Salford City Council, Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council, Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council and Bury Council) and has developed a significant practice in the defence of “tripping claims”.
Instructions are also regularly received on behalf of Police Authorities and national construction companies.
In addition to the traditional tribunals of the County and High Court, Matthew also appears in the CICA as well as undertaking First Tier Tribunal Work. Inquest work is also conducted.
As the Civil Procedure Rules continue to evolve and to encourage ADR, Matthew has experience of conducting mediations and arbitrations, as well as the more traditional “round table” discussions.
Matthew has regularly lectured on Fatal Accidents at MMU and is therefore well placed to advise and represent in such cases.
Matthew has always accepted instructions from both Claimants and Defendants in respect of such matters and is developing a burgeoning practice in respect of NIHL and Vibration Injury cases. Other areas of interest are Dermatitis and Asthma as well as Repetitive Strain injuries.
