Matt has 19 years of experience in the travel law industry. Most of that experience has been in civil and commercial litigation. Friendly and approachable, Matt is proud to serve a vast array of tour operators, travel agents, trade associations, insurers and their underwriters. His skill-set encompasses all levels of work from small claims matters right up to the complex and high value multi track cases. His well-established defendant personal injury practice revolves around two main aspects. Firstly, single party claims for trips, slips and more complex cases such as serious and fatal injuries. Secondly he has a long history or successfully dealing with illness cases – legionnaires outbreaks as well illness group and class actions involving noro-virus, salmonella, cryptosporidium and other types of food poisoning. In his time with Travlaw Matt has achieved notable results in defending various value claims against clients. However, he and his team have also recovered significant debts outstanding to them in both the UK and abroad where he has been one of the vanguard of English lawyers using European legislation to secure results against companies outside the UK. Matt’s connections, knowledge and experience has also lead to instructions from clients from other jurisdictions on advice on English law. In more recent times Matt has been heavily involved in aviation matters, notably in the thick of the recent rise in flight delay cases. As well as advising various clients on this topic, Matt has been called upon to provide training and seminars to the aviation industry as well as giving commentary in trade publications. Matt has contributed to various publications including Travel Law Quarterly and Solicitors Journal. He has blogged on various issues, featured in various newsletters and has commented on industry issues in the trade press. A popular moderator, trainer and speaker Matt is often asked to deliver in house seminars, appear on panel debates and has also spoken many times in the UK and abroad at conferences including ABTA Legal, PEOPIL, ECC-NET, GTOA, AITO, UKInbound, the Clarity Travel Management conference as well as at various Travlaw events
