Career

Lucas provides strategic business advice when successfully representing policyholders in liability insurance recovery actions, clients in products liability and class-action lawsuits, and title insurance companies in disputes with financial institutions. His vast experience includes handling large, complex litigation matters and significant appellate matters.

Certified as a Specialist in Insurance Coverage Law by the Ohio State Bar Association, Lucas regularly represents policyholders in cases against their insurers, including those involving underlying claims of environmental and products liability, in which he has helped clients recover tens of millions of dollars. He also has experience as national coordinating defense counsel in complex litigation, including leading e-discovery efforts, handling discovery disputes, taking and defending scores of depositions, and drafting multiple motions for summary judgment. Lucas has represented clients in trials to the bench, jury trials that went to verdict, and in a wide range of commercial disputes, as well as those at the intermediate appellate level.

According to clients, he is "a very knowledgeable coverage lawyer" – Chambers USA 2022 (Insurance: Ohio).

Previously, Lucas served as an extern for the Honorable John R. Adams in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He was Executive Editor of the Akron Law Review and an adjunct professor of Legal Analysis Research and Writing at University of Akron School of Law.

Lucas is certified as a Specialist in Insurance Coverage Law by the Ohio State Bar Association.
