Practice Areas
Karen has specialised, for almost 40 years, in all aspects of commercial conveyancing (with a special focus on development work for RSLs). She acts for a significant number of the RSLs in Scotland which have active development programmes. Her day-to-day work involves the negotiation of complex site acquisition/disposal and development contracts as well as the related conveyancing work. Essentially, BTO’s RSL clients look to Karen to deliver the legal services required to facilitate delivery of their development programmes and they rely on her and her team to ensure financial year end spend targets are met.
Karen leads on all conveyancing work for the firm’s RSL clients and is responsible for delivery of the cost -effective, stream-lined Shared Ownership and New supply shared equity services provided to the firm’s clients.
Her commercial projects encompass a wide variety of development and property related projects, frequently including negotiation of contracts amongst RSLs and developer “partners”. Karen has also co-ordinated and dealt with all conveyancing requirements of RSLs, including security/refinancing related conveyancing and management issues that arise in mixed tenure estates. She advises on the full range of title matters, including in relation to deeds of real burdens, deeds of conditions and development management schemes, servitudes, planning agreements and licences to occupy. Other areas of expertise include: the sale/purchase and leasing of commercial property (offices, shops and factory units).
Clients recognise Karen for her commitment to ensuring their requirements are met and for the provision of a quality service which is proactive and flexible to meet their needs, whilst demonstrating professional skill and care at all times.
