John Z.L. Huang, a founding partner of MWE China Law Offices and its managing partner, focuses his practice on creating practical comprehensive solutions for a diverse array of multinational corporate clients. As the Chinese regulatory environment has evolved, John has also acquired first-hand knowledge of liaising with authorities at all levels of government. Whether related to compliance or competition issues, John has led multidisciplinary international teams in proposing, negotiating and achieving solutions for companies doing business in China. Through handling numerous crises for companies often facing catastrophic penalties, John has developed the experience, systematic approach and legal sense necessary to navigate the difficult intersection of criminal law and compliance. In a number of cases—many of which have made national and international headlines—he has led teams in successfully responding to government raids, public relations emergencies and international political dilemmas. These cases, which are among the most challenging in the legal profession, have earned John a well-deserved reputation for providing pragmatic and effective legal solutions even in the most difficult circumstances.
John was a founder of the Great Wall Law Offices in 1995. He was one of the founders of Allbright Law Offices in 1999. In 2007, John and his partner Kevin Qian foundered MWE China Law Offices which is strategic alliance with McDermott Will & Emery. In 2011, John was honoured with the State Council Subsidy award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of China’s legal profession. John was ranked as Band 1 in “Corporate Investigations/Anti-Corruption (PRC Firms)” by Chambers Asia-Pacific 2018.
