Practice Areas

Acts for both claimants and defendants in catastrophic, complex and high value brain and spinal injuries resulting from road traffic accidents and from clinical negligence, with particular expertise in birth injuries. Regularly deals with claims involving orders for variable periodical payments. Recent cases include Loughlin v Pama & Co [2013] EWHC 1641 (QB) in which the defendant successfully contended for a reduction in past care and case management costs, Grainger v Cooper [2015] EWHC 1132 (QB) in which an order for an interim payment to purchase a specific property was refused in the absence of reasonable need and Casson v Spotmix and others [2017] EWCA 1994 in which the Court of Appeal allowed an appeal against a finding of contributory negligence in a factory accident.

Career

Called to the Bar in July 1983. Pupil of Daniel Brennan and then Tenant at 18 St John Street Chambers until 2004. Since 2004 Member of Byrom Street Chambers.

Appointed QC in April 2008.

Recorder of the Crown Court from 2005 to 2017 and of the County Court since 2013.

Accredited Mediator.
