Career

Drew focuses his practice on insurance coverage, claims management, and business litigation. He has litigated cases in state and federal court at both the trial and appellate levels. Drew has represented clients in a broad range of settings, including mediation, arbitration, and in administrative hearings and investigations.

Drew is certified as a Specialist in Insurance Coverage Law by the Ohio State Bar Association, and his insurance coverage experience includes both litigating complex insurance coverage disputes and providing general counsel for clients regarding their corporate insurance programs. As a former independent agent, Drew counsels clients on the structure of their insurance programs and works with clients and their brokers to help secure broad coverage tailored to each individual client’s needs. He has spoken extensively on the preservation of insurance rights in the face of complex corporate transactions—both counseling clients on preserving insurance rights during the drafting and negotiation of the sale and purchase of assets and assisting clients to obtain historical coverage under predecessors’ policies.

According to clients in the 2022 edition of Chambers USA (Insurance: Ohio), Drew is "levelheaded, very responsive, and easy to work with," while sources in the 2021 edition note that he “[h]as deep knowledge and experience in insurance coverage law and litigation and remains calm in heated situations. He considers client input and is careful and thoughtful about his responses and observations.”

Drew also counsels clients regarding managing large litigation dockets and assists with monthly and quarterly claims reporting, analysis of claim trends, and reserve issues. He manages Shumaker’s claims management team, which provides a SOC-1 certified solution for claims tracking, management, and reporting for the firm’s clients.
