Head of Lindsays’ charity team, Alastair advises charities and not-for-profit clients. An Accredited Specialist in charity law (since 2004) and focusses on corporate and governance aspects of charity law, charity mergers, trading and fund-raising issues. Alastair’s clients include Crossroads Caring Scotland, Sense Scotland, Carnegie UK Trust and Social Bite. He speaks throughout Scotland on governance issues to charity trustees and at charity AGMs and conferences. Alastair has been a trusted adviser to charities for more than 30 years. He regularly provides training to charity trustees.
Alastair is a member of the Writers to the Signet Society and has chaired the Society’s Charities Conference for 10 years. Alastair is Convenor of the Law Society of Scotland’s Charity Law Accreditation Panel. Alastair is a trustee in EPIC Assist Charity.
Alastair has written for various national, local, and professional publications.Alastair is the co-author of the Governance Chapter of “A Basic Guide to Charity Law in Scotland” (2016) and has written a number of “thought leadership” pieces on governance health checks, restructuring, reporting notifiable events and incorporation. Alastair is a contributor to the STEP Trustee Course. Alastair has also been interviewed on national television and featured on national news websites.
