Alan has specialised in intellectual property matters particularly patent litigation, for over 35 years. His practice covers a wide range of technologies from pharmaceuticals to telecoms, and he has represented clients in the High Court, Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (formerly Patents County Court) and UK IPO including as lead advocate (he holds the solicitor advocate qualification). He is Secretary of the IPEC Users' Committee (since 2001), and was closely involved in the 2009/2010 reforms of that Court. He is a leading commentator on the unified patent court, and chaired the AIPPI’s International UPC and unitary patent standing committee from 2013 to 2016.
