Corporate/M&A:
The firm has been involved in several cross-border M&As, private equity and venture capital transactions. Providing services to private equity funds since 1981, the firm has carried out more than 20 international joint ventures, notably on the financial services sector. The team advised on a unique transaction between a Brazilian private cooperative bank, the largest financial group in the Netherlands and one of the largest banks in the world.

Dispute Resolution & Litigation:
For over 60 years Silveiro Advogados has been on the cutting edge of legal practice. The Dispute Resolution department has 28 lawyers based in Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre. The team is specialized in civil procedural law, corporate law, agribusiness, contracts and has a successful track record all over Brazil recognized by peers and clients. The firm has pioneered arbitration practice in South of Brazil. Our attorneys also developed complementary competences in areas such as mediation, negotiation, administration and public sector issues. The practice is business-oriented and geared towards cost-effective strategies that focus on preventing litigation. The portfolio includes substantial flow of strategic corporate and commercial disputes (USD 6 billion); heavy construction issues; class actions; debt collection for banks and judicial restructuring disputes.

Tax:
Silveiro Advogados has an experienced tax team, composed by lawyers with extensive knowledge not only in tax law but also in corporate law and accounting. Based in São Paulo and Porto Alegre, the team provides clients both with tax consultancy and tax litigation services. Regarding the consultancy practice, it’s worth highlight the work carried out with several industries for the correct collection of PIS and COFINS and for compliance with special regimes. The department also has strong expertise in the auto parts sector in relation to the ICMS-ST and also to the differentiated regime of PIS and COFINS. Silveiro is recognized by peers and clients for its successful track record for resolving complex tax matters and for giving every case the special and personal attention it deserves.

Intellectual Property & Technology:
The firm pioneered online domain name dispute resolution proceedings and is nationally recognized on protection of intangible assets on digital channels. The team provides crisis management support on cyber incidents and data breaches and is a leading provider of legal support to some of the largest Brazilian companies on compliance with the recent Legal Framework for the Internet (Marco Civil) and especially with the new Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD). Silveiro was the first Brazilian firm to register trademarks on the ICANN Trademark Clearinghouse and represents 3 of the 7 Brazilian brand applications to operate New gTLDs before the ICANN. The team is also known for having strong international credentials (including LL.M., post-graduation studies, working experiences and certifications in the United States, Argentina, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Netherlands).

Real Estate:
Silveiro’s Real Estate Practice covers a wide range of rural, commercial and residential real estate matters, including developments, investment transactions, and corporate structuring. The department has deep experience in real estate contracts – purchase, lease, builtto- suit, surface, construction and usufruct agreements, due diligence, as well as for settling issues concerning land rights and registry matters. The team is also known for its expertise in financial operations and real estate funds, being recognised in the market for dealing with major projects related to agribusiness and investment funds.

Labour & Employment:
The firm holds a vast and successful experience with union’s negotiations. On litigation, the team is able to deal with massive cases while keeping a tailor-made devotion to each lawsuit and creating precedents in the highest courts. The team also provides legal advice and assistance to human resources departments, including on the restructuring of internal procedures.

Administrative & Public Law (including Competition & Antitrust):
The department benefits from the experience of a former Attorney General and Chief of Staff for the Federal State of Rio Grande do Sul. The team assists clients on public biddings, before regulatory agencies, and also on litigation in judicial, administrative and control courts, with a high success rate. The team has expertise on antitrust matters, including M&A transactions and investment funds, and has been advising on compliance and antibribery.

Its distinctiveness also stems from a close multidisciplinary work for succession planning, either for individual, companies or family businesses, together with the firm’s corporate and tax departments.

Silveiro Advogados bankruptcy team is now known for achieving solutions through a creative approach which ultimately results in the client’s turnaround.
