This has given the firm an understanding of the regulatory framework for International businesses in areas such as competition law and in connection with sector specific regulation. In August 2019 the firm merged with Peter Morrissey and Company Solicitors adding considerable strength and depth to the firm’s ongoing growing commercial real estate team. Commercial Real Estate:
In commercial property matters, the firm is currently instructed in the sale of a €50m site and previously acted for the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation in connection with its acquisition of headquarter buildings, and the firm also deals with Commercial Leases and Licenses for clients on a regular basis. Other notable recent transactions include:
■Acted for international engineering firm in negotiating Commercial Leases/Development Agreements for local headquarters
■Acted for representative body in Commercial Lease and property acquisition
■Acted for international print manufacturer in multiple property transactions

Employment Law:
O’Connor Solicitors are recognised for their expertise in employment law and have authored the Irish Chapter for the Thomson Reuters Global Guide for Practical Law on Employment Law (2018-2019) and John O’Connor has lectured on the Law Society of Ireland Diploma in Employment Law. The firm currently advises four trade unions together with multi-nationals in connection with Irish employment disputes and general advices and also advises a number of state and semi-state bodies in connection with employment matters.
■Advised multi-national in connection with TUPE regulations in context of spin-off of business unit
■Acted for medical representative body representing Consultants in relation to unpaid contractual allowances totalling €700m

Commercial Litigation/Litigation:
The firm’s litigation department is experienced in dealing with a range of actions including both large scale discovery and complex litigation. The firm acted on behalf of a Mortgage Lender in relation to its Arrears Book and act in relation to insurance disputes to include:
■Currently act for an Irish Pillar Bank in mortgage arrears cases
■The firm acts in public and employers liability claims for a US logistics company and represent a pharmaceutical company in a product liability action
■Acted in connection with a commercial contractual dispute on behalf of a number of Medical Consultants in connection with the non-payment of contracted pay increases. This settled in a case which was widely reported in the media and valued at over €700m
■Acted for an Irish subsidiary of a European multi-national in relation to personal injury actions by employees, at the plant warehouse where the claim fell below the group policy excess
■Acting in negligence claim for investor group in connection with claim for financial mis-selling

O’Connor Solicitors have worked in the Charities Sector for over 20 years providing legal services to Charitable entities seeking to establish under the Charities Act 2009.
