This session will be led by Abreu Advogados and will focus on the impact of e-commerce on the Real Estate and Retail markets.
Retail e-commerce is evolving at increasingly fast rates. It represents, nowadays, a significant percentage of costumers’ sales. This new paradigm has a huge impact on the Real Estate and Retail markets, leading the main players of these sectors to adapt and adjust their business to new emerging challenges. How are shopping centers adapting to this reality? What is the impact on M&A operations in the logistics sector? What opportunities exist for e-commerce companies? What is the impact of the increase of online sales on the real estate market? Find out the answers to these and other questions in this seminar.

Ricardo Henriques has been at Abreu Advogados since 2017, working primarily on matters related to intellectual property, information technology, personal data protection, media and advertising, telecommunications, compliance, consumer law and competition. His experience focuses particularly on the area of technology, on matters such as software licensing, compliance projects regarding emerging technologies and issues related to e-commerce. He has been working on several General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) implementation projects and other Personal Data Protection projects. He has also advised on transactions and other outsourcing projects on an ongoing basis. He frequently works with clients on preventing and/or resolving Intellectual Property and Information Technology litigation, focusing particularly on copyrights and technology litigation, intellectual property and technology licensing, data protection and other regulatory issues. He has worked for wide-ranging national and multinational companies, including companies in the automotive, pharmaceutical, services, healthcare, financial, consumer goods manufacturers, hardware and software developers, retail and online retail regarding matters related to intellectual property, compliance, information technology and data privacy and safety.
Gonçalo Lobo Xavier
Gonçalo Lobo Xavier is currently General Manager of APED – Portuguese Association for Retail Companies. He has been developing his career in different industrial fields linked to Innovation and R&D projects. Gonçalo represents CIP - Portuguese Business Confederation at the EESC -European Economic and Social Committee, where he is President of the European Semester Group. Gonçalo has a business degree and did several training courses at IMD Business School (Lausanne) and Porto Business School focused in management, international business and leadership.
Nuno Bizarro is an experienced international in-house lawyer focused in Real Estate, M&A, Asset and Property Management and Project Financing in some of the main EU markets and South America. He worked at Sonae Sierra for more than 16 years, had been involved in all major cross border transactions of the Group in Europe and South America, and is currently the Iberian Legal and Compliance Director at Multi Corporation. Nuno was also a lecturer of Civil law subjects for a Private Law Faculty in Porto for more than 15 years.
Head of Retail
Patrícia Araújo is Head of Retail and Member of the Executive Board at JLL Portugal. She has 22 years of experience developing retail projects in Spain and Portugal. She is responsible for leasing Shopping Centers, High Street Retail and Tenant Representation. Since 2018, she is the Country Lead of Building a Better Tomorrow program in Portugal, the JLL’s sustainability strategy. Patricia has a Degree in Economics from Nova SBE, a post-graduate diploma in Real Estate Management and Investment from CEMAF ISCTE, and in Marketing II from the International Council of Shopping Centers at European Retail Property School.
Patrícia Viana is a Partner since 2016 and has been with Abreu Advogados since 2008, working primarily on real estate. Between 2006 and 2010 her activity was centred primarily on advising real estate developers in constructions, licensing and sale of residential and tourism development as part of the team responsible for licensing and development of a number of tourism projects. In 2008 she was in a secondment at a real estate fund management firm where she assisted on the day to day activities of the managed funds, in the years that followed she participated in the creation and regulation of investment funds in Angola and Portugal. Since 2014 she has participated in M&A operations as they were related to real estate, especially in the retail area – Shopping Centres – and coordinated due diligence teams and was also involved in the negotiation and closing of the operations in which she was involved. She has extensive experience in advising on sale & leaseback transactions as well as renting in the context of construction. She coordinates the real estate practice area at Abreu Advogados since 2016 and is also part of the immigration law subdivision.
