Skadden is a market leader recognized for successfully resolving disputes on behalf of the largest Latin American companies and international investors in the region. Our broad experience involves disputes in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. We have recently handled several gas purchase and supply disputes in addition to joint venture and post-acquisition disputes in the energy sector, beverage and pharmaceutical industries, including construction disputes and a decades-long shareholder dispute with multiple parallel litigations. Most of our representations have us draw upon our Spanish and Portuguese language capabilities. Our partners also act as arbitrators in Latin American disputes venued in the United States and Latin America, which are governed by New York law or Latin American civil laws and conducted in the Spanish and Portuguese languages.
Based on their extensive experience, our attorneys are regularly invited to participate in arbitration conferences to share their insights into current issues, including the Argentine debt default, corruption in international commercial contracts, litigation strategy in aid of arbitration to seek or defend against provisional measures, the interface between litigation and arbitration in amparo matters and class action suits, and the enforcement of awards annulled in the place of arbitration or of arbitration awards against sovereigns.
