Overview

  • LALIVE is one of the few international law firms with a tradition of consistent involvement in public international law. The practice advises and represents States, international organisations, companies and individuals on all areas, including a considerable number of investment treaty disputes. In addition, it provides advice on inter-State matters involving questions of treaty law, the law of international organisations, State responsibility, international human rights, the law of sovereign immunity, international public health law, international trade law, and the law of the sea.
  • The firm’s specialists represent clients before the World Bank (ICSID), the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), the United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC), the Iran-US Claims Tribunal, the administrative tribunals of the United Nations, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO). They have acted as counsel and adjudicators in a variety of international claims proceedings relating to World War II and to conflicts in the Middle East, the Balkans and Africa.
  • The team also represents clients in international criminal law proceedings, advising and acting on behalf of governments and non-governmental entities in relation to matters such as war crimes, terrorism, genocide and crimes against humanity. One of the firm's partners has rights of audience before the International Criminal Court.
