About

Provided by Hogan Lovells

The Hogan Lovells rail practice represents clients across all segments of the industry including passenger rail, light rail, freight rail, rail car builders and lessors, and other rail industry suppliers. Our lawyers provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary advice to rail clients, but are best known for our transactional and regulatory work. We regularly represent clients before all the relevant state and federal courts and regulatory agencies, including the STB, USDOT, the FRA, the Federal Transit Administration, the Railroad Retirement Board, the PHMSA, and the National Transportation Safety Board, on high stakes matters.

Our experience includes advising on some of the most significant and high value regulatory matters in the rail industry, working on numerous prominent passenger railroad transactions, and advising regional and short line freight railroads, national passenger and freight railroads, and light rail transit systems. We have particular expertise in the transportation of hazardous materials by rail, and compliance with corresponding regulations enforced by the PHMSA and FRA. Notably, we are also the firm of choice for almost every supplier to the railroads, either indirectly through our work for their trade association, or directly though our work for various entities that provide and maintain the tracks, and build rail cars and other equipment purchased and used by the railroads.
