The firm’s maritime activities are handled by four departments: marine litigation, ship registration, ship finance, and yachting. The Marine Litigation Department’s practice covers a wide cross section of shipping and maritime issues, ranging from ship repair to carriage of goods, shipping casualties, salvage, admiralty and maritime investigations, as well as assisting the Maltese Government with the privatisation of shipyards and yacht marinas. It has been involved in a landmark judgment obtaining the largest amount of damages ever awarded by a Maltese court.
During 2016 it obtained 3 favourable judgments in collision cases in the English Channel and Maltese territorial waters. It also assisted the Republic of Malta in successfully defending a claim by the EU Commission against Malta for an alleged breach of Regulation 3577. The Ship Registration and Ship Finance Departments jointly represent some of the largest fleets and most important financiers in the world, whilst the Yachting Department acts for and provides solutions to owners of some of the world’s largest super yachts used for private as well as commercial purposes.
